Hike/Pioneering Camp

Saturday 10th/11th December 2005

Saltney Ferry Scouts and a few Explorers held a camp at Gladstone campsite in Hawarden. The camp was entirely arranged by two of our Explorors, and was very enjoyable. A tower was constructed using pioneering, abseiling took place, hikes to the chip shop and around the area. During the hike a few funny moments took place, mainly due to cows and the mess they leave behind. Whilst half way on a hike, it is not the best time to find out someone is petrified of cows. Stood at a fence for about half an hour we managed to move on, with a group of Explorers shielding the Scout from the cows. It was amazing how the walking got quicker as the cows moved towards us on the field. Eventually the ones at the back had to go straight through the cow muck. One little Scout lifted his foot to find his trainer left behind in the cow muck, not a pretty site but quite funny afterwards!
