River Wye Cruise
Friday 4th - Monday 7th May 2007
On the first bank holiday in May, Saltney Ferry Scouts and Explorers took part in the 24th River Wye Scout Cruise. The third time the group had taken part in this event, and the group include three leaders, four explorers, and two scouts.
The weekend involves kayaking 35 miles over three days, which is quite an achievement. During the weekend we also managed to get some Form W assessments completed. These forms allow people to take Scouts on the water. Thanks to Ray for helping us out with this. Matthew also managed to gain his one star, which after completing his second 35 mile event, was hugely deserved.
The weekend is split into a number of days. First of all arriving at Hoarwithy late at night. Paddling from Hoarwithy to Ross-on-Wye the next day. Ross-on-Wye to Biblins(Forest of Dean) on the Sunday. Finally completing the journey from Biblins to Monmouth on the Monday.
Most of the people completed it all by kayak, but for some bizarre reason on of our female Explorers decided to swim at one point. We also managed to feed the local mosquito’s along the way, and we were still feeling the bites for weeks afterwards.
