Gladstone Challenge Camp
29th/30th January 2005
Saltney Ferry Scouts and Explorers held a challenge camp at Gladstone at the start of 2005. The camp included a number of activities which included crate stacking, swimming, food challenge, wide game, geocaching, tennis ball mortar creation, and a few games along the way. The camp was spent in hike tents, and was just a bit cold!
The crate stacking involved being suspended in a harness and stacking crates whilst keeping your balance. Balance was important, and unfortunately most of us were lacking that vital ingredient. Until on comes the two youngest 10 year old members at the camp, to show the useless more experienced people how it should be done. In fact one of them managed to stand on 21 crates, and stopped at the tree. We then had an attempt at trying to launch a tennis ball into the air with a Tennis Ball Mortar, but it was not working on the day!

A few games were held, and then it was off to Tesco for the next challenge. Each group was given £9, and told to find food to cook for their tea. Later on a camp fire was held with Bwlchgwyn group, and a wide game. Then off to sleep for a very cold night.

Sunday morning was started with cooking breakfast, and then a trip to Connahs Quay swimming pool in practice for the gala. Unfortunately the Landrover engine blew up on the trip, so the camp was ended on a rather expensive note.
