Brecon Scout Camp 2006
Saturday 29th July - 5th August
Saltney Ferry Scouts and Explorers spent the 2006 week camp in the Brecon Beacons. Taking place on a field situated between two lovely streams, and Pen-y-fan in the background. A total of twenty people went this year, and a thoroughly enjoyable camp was had by all. visited Chester Zoo during July. Trips out included Brecon Regimental Museum and Leisure Centre, Waterfall Country, Big Pit, Raglan Castle, and Skiing. Below are pictures from the camp, and some of the funny moments as well.

Each day starts with Flagbreak

After two of our leaders returning from a week of training at Gilwell, Scouts Own was run slightly differently with something they had learnt on a course. Very different, but quite fun!

During the week a number of the meals are cooked on an open fire. This is our Scout of the Camp showing off his bacon!

The site had two brilliant streams running alongside it. Many hours of fun was had messing in it. Even swimming for some of the nutters amongst our group.

The plunge pool was extremely cold, as you can see from the before and after images above.

Above a 'Bad Hair Day' for one of our Explorers, an Explorer acting like a gentleman(or a creep!), and a leader about to plunge.

Sometimes some parts just got too cold!

We built an aerial runway, which was quite a challenge. Especially getting the leader down from the tree afterwards.

At first I thought it was the Explorers new form of underwear, but silly me it was his bed!

The water slide was fun for all. Just a shame a couple got a rash in a rather delicate place.

A trip to the Regimental Museum in Brecon.

The investiture of an Explorer was held in the Waterfall Country
Afterwards we went down a cave

Our Big Ball provided a bit of fun on the camp.

Our very own athletics games were held. The young and fit threw the big mallet, while the old threw the little one! Well not quite but it had to be said.

Like father, like son.

Thanks to the Brownies, we had the use of a parachute.

Throughout the week we had a number of planes going over.

Homemade archery

The majority were good at skiing, even though they had not done it before

Pity I wasn't! Although I lasted until the end, more than can be said for the Penguin.

Raglan Castle was quite an impressive site.

Twister was won buy the young ones, leaving the old in heaps on the floor.

Final Campfire. During our camps we try to run a campfire during most nights. Finishing with a campfire where Scouts, Explorers, and Leaders sing their own songs saying what happened during the week. Usually quite funny, and a special end to the week.

Finally during a number of days in the week, we were joined by two visitors. Two Explorers who recently made friends with our Explorers during a Team X weekend. No doubt a friendship for many years to come.
